what a difference each day makes

We're so happy that Emery has more smiles and longer periods of happiness and contentment every day. Grateful are we that his personality is coming through and the reflux is under control. The first video is from August 28th and the second was taped September 21st. I apologize ahead of time for my high-pitched mama voice. It's innate and uncontrollable... but my son thinks it's grand, so it's here to stay!

what a day

After a long night of many feeds and a couple of hours sleeping in the recliner with my squirmy little one, Emery and I met up with Uncle Corey and Chickie for lunch at Cafe Rio. It was wonderful to have the extra hands to help. And to top it all off, I was treated to a nap at my mom's while she chickie-sat this afternoon.

note the foot flex, which is Emery's trademark

we were so worried about the lack of eye contact, but now he won't stop staring!

We didn't plan to be gone so long, but ended up getting home at bedtime. A quick bath and a bottle later, he was sound asleep. And I'm a little sad, as it's probably the last time he'll wear this outfit to bed. It's been one of our favorites from before his birth (big thanks Brooke-- how did you know he'd look so adorable in blue?)

Conan

His hair is growing so fast, I'm not quite sure what to do with it.
I'm afraid it's getting a little reminiscent of a certain red-haired late night talk show host.

Knock Knock

Who's there?

SURPRISE!

Around 8:3o pm, I was getting ready to lay my head to sleep (what an awesome Saturday night, right?!?). We heard a knock at the door, so I turned off the alarm while Nate went to answer it. He looked out the window and said, "No way-- come here". Corey was standing on our front porch! Hugs abounded and I shed a tear or two. First things first-- I took Corey to view our creation. Emery slept through his initial meeting with his uncle, but I still managed to get it on film.

What a wonderful night.

Friday

All in all, it was a good day.

The sky was beautiful.

Even though there was a bit of crying,

there was a long, all-by-himself nap.

We had some of our favorite visitors--

(doesn't she look like she's about to do something naughty? I love it!)

and little Emery, who I had leaned back in the chair to photograph, pulled himself up into a sitting position. Erin and I were floored!

my new favorite thing

I bought him a sleep sack this week and it's working perfectly. It was making me nervous using blankets in his bed, considering how active he is (even in sleep!). Now I just have to work on figuring out how to cover his hands. I have been using his socks as mittens, but they mysteriously come off in the middle of the night. I have no idea how he manages to do it, given they fit from the tips of his fingers to his elbows. Emery is fooling his mother already.

day three of that hair.

After 7 attempts to scrub it out, we're still left with a head full of Vaseline. Please don't try this at home. Two good things have come of this: 1. his cradle cap is definitely gone and 2. he's got great volume for such straight hair (I'm a little jealous).

still a greaser...

look at that body.

such height!

that hair

Emery's got a bit of cradle cap, so my dermatologist said to put Vaseline all over his head. Needless to say, my child looks like Johnny Depp in "Cry Baby", minus the leather jacket. Worried that strangers would think ill of me for not taking care of his hygiene, I put a hat on him while we were out today. At lunch with Donna, our cute waitress told me that Emery was pretty. "I know he's a boy, but I'm just gonna say it..." I have to admit that I agree with her. If only she'd seen his hair, though-- that's what really gets the ladies going. Last week, a woman stopped me and said that she couldn't get the thought out of her mind to just take a bite of him, he was so cute. "It's an inappropriate thought, but true. That hair...", she said.

I realized today that that hair (all 3 and a 1/2 inches of it) is such a part of him. Without it, he looks so different! Here it comes... the montage:
