word to your mother

Run-down on the last couple of days avec glasses:

Thursday: pick up glasses and have fitted; take them off that evening and poor Emery has solid red lines on both sides of head-- too tight on his noggin!

Friday: go back to eye center and have glasses refitted by another tech; Emery rips them off every 4 minutes and I spend all afternoon fighting to keep them on

Saturday morning: put on glasses first thing in the morning after placing Emery in his walker and then turn around to answer phone; hear a horrible noise and turn to see Emery without his glasses running towards me and realize the glasses are stuck under the walker and are being dragged and scratched; find said glasses with big scratches on both lenses; cry a little as the $300 price tag looms in my vision

Saturday afternoon: contact eye center to find out if we can replace them (once for free within the first year of purchase); spend 1 hour at local eye glass shop trying to figure out how to attach glasses to his head without hurting him; come up with only this option:

So this worked for a little while. It's an adult strap that you would place on reading glasses so that they would hang around your neck while not in use. We used one of my hair rubber bands to tighten it.

VERY true statement: the mother of invention is necessity.

They stayed on for a bit, but he could still wiggle them off when they annoyed him.

Sunday: policed glass wearing and was physically exhausted by evening

Monday: went back to eye center to have glasses adjusted once more-- not too tight and not too loose; was told to wait a few months to replace glasses, as they would most likely get more scratched; felt sad for Emery having to see through scratched lenses

Tuesday: called Primary Children's and prayers were ANSWERED! they have an optical center for little ones that carry special rope that fit his glasses (which have backs that hug around the ear); happily took trip to Primary Children's and glasses were fitted by the optical pediatric specialist, Ellen; I told Ellen that I wanted to be her new best friend

Wednesday: hope it's fabulous with our new rope!
