bliss

No pics today, just a mother's happy thoughts. We had a great day all around, and I feel like Emery's ailment is coming to an end. He was content most of the day and we didn't have any big bouts of crying. I was even able to get dressed while he laid in his crib talking and making cute baby noises, along with pumping while he played on his activity mat-- firsts for the both of us! I think the acid reflux medicine we are giving him might actually change our lives completely...

Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)

For my two favorite boys-- dancing with Elton leads to some much needed shut-eye.

dare I say it?

Even though I'm holding my breath, every day for the last week we've had a nightly routine that's produced sound sleeping for 7 straight hours! It makes the sunlight a little easier, knowing that all the drama during the day will end with this sweet angel sleeping through the night.

for now--

--it's an outtie. His pediatrician said it's an umbilical hernia (defined as "an outward bulging (protrusion) of the abdominal lining or part of the abdominal organ(s) through the area around the belly button"). Sounds and looks painful, but it apparently doesn't bother him. It should heal on its' own within the next couple of years. But for now, his button is a little broken.

Yee Haw

Brooklyn, Emery, and I met Susannah, Baby Jack, and Erin
at Thanksgiving Point for some fun at Farm Country...

Even Emery really enjoyed his time there.

Update

Good news- we might have a cure for all the crying! Today, the doctor agreed that most likely, Emery has GER. Thanks to my mom for her diligent sleuthing on the internet. Hopefully, the medication we started him on last night will help him be a much happier little soul.

On a side note, he weighed 14 lbs. 6 oz. and was measured at 23 3/4". He's still the 90th percentile for his weight and has bumped up to 75% for his height. I think at his 2 month appointment last week, his height wasn't measured correctly... he is a wiggle worm!

a little more bath time fun...

I realized something today.

He cries so much and so often and it hurts my heart-- when he's not screaming, I think he must be so content! I noticed as I watched this video that I talked to him about how happy he was, even though he had a scowl on his little face. We're going to the pediatrician tomorrow, as he's showing a lot of signs of GER (gastroesophageal reflux). Hopefully, tomorrow will bring some much needed relief for the both of us.

Hooray! Hooray for this!

Usually, I get this upon Emery awaking from a nap:

Today, I got this:

I adore this baby.

Cute Feet

On Thursday, we went for pedicures. Brooklyn and I went first and grandma stayed in the car with Emery, who slept the entire time.

I can't say he did the same for me, though- when we switched places, he awoke and spent the next hour eating and complaining that grandma wasn't around. Once we were on the road again, all was well and another nap was had.

I cried.

I really did. On Tuesday, Emery had his 2 month check up with his pediatrician, Dr. Whiting. He had to get 4 shots. We both didn't do so well. Upon seeing his little face turn bright red and a scream trying to form in his throat, I lost it. The poor nurse was more worried about my reaction than his. She even gave me a hug after it was over and told me she was sorry she had to hurt him. Sad!

On a positive note, his stats were great and he's growing like a weed... he weighed 13 lbs. 12 oz. (90th percentile) and he's 23 inches long (50th percentile). His head, though, is off the charts at 43.2 cm... 97th percentile-- there's a lot of smarts in that noggin, I'm sure.

After the appointment, we went to visit grandma for a little love. Given the smile, it turned out to be an OK afternoon.

A Plea

Dear Uncle Corey,

It makes me cry that you haven't met me yet.

Sincerely,
Emery

How can you resist visiting? Curses, Dave Ramsey and your financial freedom! Buy a ticket with gazelle-like intensity and come for a weekend!

Carnivale

Brooklyn and Chloe joined us for my company's annual summer party on Saturday. There's something so tender about little girls! Dave now works for the same company, so we got to spend some time with Inez, too. The Tornado was the most fun for the girls, but only the second time around. They got to ride with two bigs kids that spun them so fast, they got off the ride walking sideways.
